Bowser

(Full Article Coming Soon)

Bowser, son of King Koopa, is the current ruler of the Koopa race. This boastful, yet misunderstood tyrant is a Legendary Torgon – an ancient race of turtle dragons descended from Koopa blood intertwined with magic.

Bowser is the arch enemy of Mario & Luigi, and of the enitre Mushroom Kingdom itself. He is solely responsible for stirring the Koopa Resistance against the Human Revolution. As a child, he discovered the truth and rebirth of the Twin Prophecy – starting a life long rivalry with the Mario Brothers.

Standing nearly 4 meters (around 12 feet tall), Bowser is an incredibly intimidating individual. His thick, scarred and spiked hide shows the horrific situations he has endured even at such a relatively young age. Despite his appearance and usual demeanor, Bowser is an unusual member of his bloodline – he is a tyrant by nature, but his heart truly leads him to revolutionize his people.

Bowser lost his father, King Koopa, at an incredibly young age. Up until that point, he spent every waking moment trying to prove his worth to his father. King Koopa knew his son was different, and damned the conscience and occasional mercy his son showed toward their enemies. Bowser tried as hard as he could to fight the kindness hidden within his young heart – twisting his own psyche into a terribly confused youth. Bowser’s hide would come to reflect his mind’s state with age – both his internal and external being severely scarred and worn.

To the Koopa races, Bowser is either a savior or a tyrant – and the verdict is truly split down the middle (many attribute the civil war between the Koopas themselves to be one of the main reasons why the Human Revolution has remained in place – besides Mario & Luigi, of course). Some Koopas view Bowser as a hero, a King who will lead them back into dominance and prosperity. Others see him as a tyrant, a cruel king ignorant of the world’s progress, and truly believe he is ruining all that the peaceful Koopas have fought to earn.

Bowser’s quarrel with the Mario Brothers runs deeply – as deep as any rivalry or hatred ever could. He blames the italian brothers for the death of his father and the demise of his kingdom.

From Yoshi‘s Entry:

According to legend, Yoshi was solely responsible for the rescue and survival of both Mario Brothers after their birth. Koopa lore tells of a young Prince Bowser – who, with the help of his father’s sage, forsaw the birth of two twin heroes that would signal the end of his father’s reign over the Mushroom Kingdom, and keep the peace during their lifetime. Bowser, wanting to prove his worth to his father (King Koopa), set out with a small troop of creatures and intercepted the delivery of the infants from the kingdom’s high hospital to their parent’s humble italian cottage. With a gaggle of his father’s Koopa Paratroopas, Bowser managed to shoot the twin babies from the sky, seemingly ending their chance of ever overthrowing his future reign. But the infants were intercepted over the west side of Yoshi Island, and a family of alert Yoshis witnessed the horrible attack. Bowser, riding on one of his Paratroopas, spotted the Yoshis as the babies fell. The cruel young prince immediately ordered his troops to dive down and capture the infants, preventing the Yoshi’s from helping them escape the fall. The mother of the Yoshi family quickly jumped, shooting her elastic-like tongue far into the air, catching the baby with a red hat. The other twin was not so lucky. The green hatted infant was captured by the Paratroopas, kidnapped to be a slave in King Koopa’s dungeon. Bowser, furious that the Yoshis had intervened, ordered his Paratrooper down, slaying the mother of the dinosaur family. Her six children looked on in horror as their mother was mercilessly killed… and the Paratroopas flew on. They were headed to King Koopa’s remote castle on the island, a cruel place he used to keep control of the territory.

Mario and Bowser are such fierce rivals for many reasons. A large part of it is rooted within their heritage, as displayed above. Mario and Luigi are also responsible for the safety of the Mushroom Kingdom, and defending it from Bowser’s constant rebellions. But above all, both share a deep love for Princess Peach, and everyone knows who she has chosen as her one true love. Bowser’s love for Peach is out of place and almost born from hatred – he has kidnapped her on several occasions – always to be foiled by the Mario Brothers.

Overall, Bowser is a deeply disturbed and misunderstood individual with much of his past scars to blame for his current dispositions. He is boastful, prideful, and sometimes ignorant – but beneath his horrifying appearance and projected personality is a young dragon wanting to prove himself to the world – a mind so twisted by a lifetime of peril and destruction that he is prone to sometimes mesh what is evil, and what is right.

Mario

Mario is the older of the twin brothers known as the Super Mario Brothers – his younger brother being Luigi. Mario is a model hero and the idol of the entire Mushroom Kingdom. He is a carefree brawler with a sense of naivety about him – someone who is always having fun, even in the face of certain danger. Mario & Luigi’s adoptive last name is Mancini, but neither of the brothers uses this title regularly when referring to themselves.

Mario has an unmatched love of life, something he shares with his close friend, Yoshi. He lives his life with a constant sense of wonder, always exploring and taking in new sights and information. In some cases, he can be rather dense. He is, however, very capable of putting on a serious face when the situation calls – and it often does.

The Mario Brothers are modern legends, two twin heroes that were foreseen to end the Torgon’s tyrannical reign with the coming of their birth. The prophecy has proven true on all accounts – the evil King Koopa died the very moment Mario & Luigi’s were born. Their sworn enemy, Bowser – son of King Koopa, attempted to dispel of the twins after they were born to try and break the prophecy. After Bowser lost the infant Mario on Yoshi Island, he kidnapped infant Luigi, returning with the human child to his father’s castle. Upon arrival, he found his father dead in the throne. Bowser, blaming the twins and their prophecy for his father’s death, threw Luigi into a dungeon as a mere baby.

The remarkable young dinosaur, Yoshi, snuck into Koopa’s castle with baby Mario on his back, and managed to rescue baby Luigi. With no way off the island, Yoshi brought the two human babies back to his orphaned siblings. The six young dinosaurs and the two baby humans spent two years together, growing up peacefully on an island full of fruit and dinosaurs. The six Yoshis took in the baby humans, protecting them with their lives.  Yet as peaceful as their existence was, Luigi did not flourish in the jungle as his older brother did. Mario had a nack for adventure even as a toddler, roaming the deep forests and discovering new things – completely unaware of the danger surrounding him.

As a twist of fate, an italian explorer and his wife stumbled upon the toddler twins while mapping the far jungles of Yoshi Island. The couple, Bruno and Carmela Mancini, immediatly snatched up the children, incredibly concerned for their safety in such an environment. The twins were wearing nothing but their oversized hats and leaves. Bruno lifted up the green cap on the younger, skinnier brother – and inscribed on the inside of the hat was the name Luigi. Carmela did the same for the round, rambunctious older brother – and read the name Mario outloud. Suddenly, the wind picked up – and the sun shone brighter.

Yet as the Mancinis began to move with Mario & Luigi, they were immediatly surrounded by five Yoshi’s of budding age – One Yellow, one Red, one Pink, One Blue, and one Orange. Just as the Yoshi’s were ready to reclaim their human brothers, A bright green Yoshi jumped from the bushes, swearing his brothers and sister off. The Mancinis, frozen with fear, clinched the two toddler twins close to their chests, ready to give their lives for these two children. Yoshi -recognizing the same passion for life in these two explorers that he and his siblings share, bowed to the strangers, approaching Bruno and licking his hand. Bruno, having read of the Yoshi’s nature in his texts, recognized the gesture, and lowered to his knees to meet the green Yoshi eye to eye. Luigi leaped from Bruno’s arms, wrapping his arms around the green dinosaurs neck. Bruno attempted to take Luigi away from Yoshi, but the child clung to the dinosaur with all of his might, crying loudly. Bruno, seeing no other option – asked the Yoshi to accompany them back to the New Mushroom Kingdom. He saw no reason to separate the young boys from their caretaker. Yoshi, sharing a glance with his brothers and sisters, chose to follow his destiny, and accompanied the humans back to the kingdom.

Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi were raised with great care and unconditional love in the territory of Italy, a powerful land to the east that still stood from the Old World. The Mancinis developed a deep connection with the twin boys, but no matter how hard they tried – they could not get Luigi to fully open up to them. Mario, however, was completely different. His fun loving, carefree naivety was completely inherited from his father – a large, brutish yet air-headed explorer. Bruno also taught his older son the ways of combat and exploring, extensively traveling with Mario as a young lad. Unlike his older brother, Luigi didn’t take well to change. As Mario learned different forms of combat and explored the Kingdom, Luigi stayed close to the forest, learning his skills naturally and without guidance. Both brothers have become incredibly adept fighters, but in completely different styles and manners.

Mario shares a deep connection with Princess Peach, the love of his life. The two were first acquainted when their sworn enemy Bowser, rose to lead the Koopa’s into their first rebellion. Bowser, as an attempt to control the King and his Kingdom, kidnapped Princess Peach from the high castle. Mario and Luigi, realizing their destiny, set out at the young age of 20 to rescue the princess and save the Kingdom. As soon as Mario and Peach met upon her rescue – it was love at first sight. As a result of Mario’s civilian status, the two remain unmarried to this day. However, they are as in love as two can possibly be – and King Toadstool is quite alright with it. The King adores Mario and Luigi. Mario has also become very close friends with Peach’s confidant, Toad.

Mario and his brother are equally adept in the ways of magic- It is assumed that the prophecy surrounding their birth and life is the reason for their unusually high skill level in the dark arts. The originators of their prophecy were also twins – Lords Mars and Luchetto of Viking lore. Its unclear whether or not Mario and Luigi are direct descendants of the Twin Lords, but it is assumed that the natural flow of magic carried out their prophecy and curse on the Torgons for the betterment of Earth itself.

Mario’s preferred magic attack is a red fireball he fires from his hands. These powers are increased dramatically with the aid of a fireflower, a magical flower full of kinetic magic energy. Mario and his brother are also capable of flight and other incredible feats with the aid of magic and items.

Mario’s skills are near unmatched in battle. He absolutely loves to brawl, never breaking his concentration or sense of wonder. During a fight, Mario is often grinning and chuckling, yelling his trademark phrases as he beats his enemies into submission. However, Mario is never brutal – his undying love of life always shines thru, and he is merciful to enemies worthy of such. Mario doesn’t have a temper, he is incredibly hard to anger.

On adventures, Luigi tends to take the background, aiding his brother with intelligence and stealth – a direct contrast to his brothers naive, fun loving approach to conflict. As different as they are, the two are inseparable.

ParaKoopa

This incredibly interesting species is referred to as the Parakoopas, often mixed up with the military term, Koopa Paratroopa (Avian soldiers in the Koopa army).

Parakoopas are sort of a mystery – They’re clearly of Koopa descent, but have physical characteristics of both birds and tortugans (the scientific name for the Koopa ofshoot of the tortoise genus). Given that both birds and tortugans are of reptilian descent, it is assumed that Parakoopas are a naturally evolving Koopa species. However, other creatures featuring similar wings, such as the ParaGoomba, are of magical influence. If this species is the result of magic mixing with evolution, it has been over a long period of time and no longer shows any traces.

As a species, Parakoopas are fascinating. This offshoot of the Koopa genus is bipedal and avian, capable of full, extended flight. Despite their more beastial appearance, Parakoopas are every bit as intelligent as the rest of their highly developed species.

Fully adapted for both aerial and terrain hunting, the Parakoopas have developed a number of useful attributes. Their front arms are much longer than that of their Koopa relatives, allowing Parakoopas to snatch up targets from above – an excellent advantage while hunting or in battle. Their back legs have also developed talons, and are shorter as a result of their 50/50 avian lifestyle. Their shells, however, are not removeable like those of Koopas. A Parakoopa’s shell has developed into a muscle casing, outer protection for an absurd amount of back and rib muscles that support their wings and flight. Generally, Parakoopa shells are red or brown in color.

Parakoopas are slightly taller than normal Koopas, standing about 1.3 meters tall (4 feet or so), but weigh less as a result of their avian evolution. Their wingspan is impressive, and can stretch from 4 to 5 meters (12 to 15 feet). Their wings are covered in beautiful, glossy white feathers. Some Parakoopas have developed feathers on their tails, arms, and the crests of their heads.

MagiKoopa

The term MagiKoopa applies to both individuals and the cult as a whole. MagiKoopas are Koopas heightened in power by magic, usually of a dark nature. The cult also referred to as the MagiKoopa is a group that serves under the ‘Koopa King’, Bowser, and has served under Koopa royalty for eons. Generally, a ‘High Wizard’ will be appointed within the MagiKoopa – this individual will also serve as the Royal Sage – a confidant and military leader within Koopa Royalty. Interestingly enough, Koopas within the Magikoopa cult are all referred to by the title MagiKoopa, and give up any former name or title. Throughout history, any time a MagiKoopa is sighted in text or folklore, use the date of the event they’re mentioned within to differentiate individuals.

MagiKoopa have often played a large part in the history of the land’s kindgoms. Most recently, the High Wizard that served under King Koopa revealed that the legend of the Twin Prophecy was indeed reality, and predicted both the coming of Mario & Luigi and the death of King Koopa.

From a magical standpoint, MagiKoopa are rather skilled and adept in the dark arts. Koopas, in general, are not a very magically inclined species – but over a period of time a concentrated bloodline within the MagiKoopa cult has produced rather imposing wizards and sages.

Physically, MagiKoopa are the same height and build as other Koopas, but tend to have a more mangled, sadistic look. Their closed off bloodline within the cult, combined with the dark art’s effect on their mortal bodies, has twisted their physical forms as well as their minds – resulting in discoloration and mangling of the skin, eyes, and shell. MagiKoopas often sport more defined claws on their digits, and a full mouth of jagged, sharp teeth – as opposed to the toothless beak of other Koopas. As a result of their darker, often grotesque appearance, MagiKoopa wear deep blue full body robes. They also wear dark tinted goggles to protect their sensitive eyes from the flashes and fire often associated with physical magic.

Luigi

Luigi is the younger of the twin brothers known as the Super Mario Brothers – his older brother being Mario. Although he will never admit to it, Luigi has had a much harder life than Mario – experiencing heavy trauma that is rooted deep within his infancy. Mario & Luigi’s adoptive last name is Mancini, but neither of the brothers uses this title regularly when referring to themselves.

Luigi is a model hero to the kingdom – even if he is a bit overshadowed by his brother. He loves technology, and is always searching for new devices when he is exploring other cultures and lands. Luigi is also very shy, preferring to let his brother take the lead in battle. Once you get to know him though, Luigi has a very fun and goofy side to him – something that has earned him many friends and a spotless reputation over the years.

Bowser, blaming the twins and their prophecy for his father’s death, threw Luigi into a dungeon as a mere baby.

He doesn’t know for sure, but Luigi estimates that he spent several weeks in that dungeon as a baby, being fed by a single koopa nurse without any human contact. Mario had a nack for adventure even as a toddler, but Luigi was slightly traumatized – preferring the comfort of the den with his Yoshi siblings.

The Mancinis developed a deep connection with the twin boys, but no matter how hard they tried – they could not get Luigi to fully open up to them. Bruno trained Mario in the ways of exploring and combat, while Luigi preferred to study at home with Carmela. When Luigi was not studying, he was back out in the fields, riding Yoshi until the two of them couldn’t go any further. Unlike his older brother, Luigi didn’t take well to change. As Mario learned different forms of combat and explored the Kingdom, Luigi stayed close to the forest, learning his skills naturally and without guidance. Both brothers have become incredibly adept fighters, but in completely different styles and manners.

Luigi, with time, has become accustomed to society – and doesn’t see himself as an outcast as he once did. He has even found a love interest in the form of Princess Daisy, the daughter of Queen Pedastool of the Flower Kingdom – The Mushroom Kingdom’s oldest and strongest ally.

Luigi and his brother are equally adept in the ways of magic- It is assumed that the prophecy surrounding their birth and life is the reason for their unusually high skill level in the dark arts. The originators of their prophecy were also twins – Lords Mars and Luchetto of Viking lore. Koopa

January 14, 2010

‘Koopa’ is the term used to describe the naturally evolving member of the species, and the species as a whole. Koopas are humanoid tortugans, and are not to be confused with the more beastial Parakoopas, which are of magical influence. It is also interesting to note that the terms ‘Koopa Troopa’ and ‘Paratroopa’ refer specifically to soldiers of the Koopa Army, and not a certain species or civilians. Rather, the correct terms are simply ‘Koopa’ and ‘Parakoopa’.

Koopas stand over a meter tall (usually around 3-4 feet), and unlike turtles can remove their shells. It can sometimes be hard to distinguish males from females with their shells still on. Koopas are fully sentient, and highly intelligent humanoids with a generally peaceful nature. However, they share much in common psychologically with humans – and members of this species are prone to anger, outbursts, and all sides of the spectrum. Koopas do not take part in magic, and are not adept in the dark arts. However, a rare cult of magic wielding koopas has always existed under the reign of the King Koopas. These dark wizards are known as the MagiKoopas. The much larger, spiked dragon relatives of the Koopas, directly associated with royal blood, are known as Legendary Torgons. Such members of this species are the deceased King Koopa, and his son, Bowser.

Koopas live in all territories of the Mushroom Kingdom alongside humans and other beings. Many humans despise Koopas for the way things were before The Human Revolution, when King Koopa ruled over the kingdom and humans were enslaved. Many Koopas took part in running slave camps for humans, but only because their royalty forced them to. Only now, 25 years after the revolution are relations between Koopas and Humans beginning to smooth out. By historical standards, though – humans and Koopas are longtime rivals.

Yoshi

Yoshi is a legendary green member of his species, a rare and extraordinary dinosaur that kept his green scales through adulthood (for more on this, and the Yoshi species, refer to the ‘Yoshi(s)‘ article filed under species). He is a fun loving, curious dinosaur who exemplifies every noble and outstanding quality of his species. Yoshi is also a life long partner of and part of the heroic team known as the Super Mario Brothers.

The youngest of the now orphaned Yoshis noticed the monogrammed red hat on the human baby. He looked at his mother – his siblings, and then back to the infant child. The young Yoshi knew he had to avenge his family, and bring this stranded baby back to his. This young dinosaur would come to be known the world over by the same title as his species, Yoshi.

Since the rescue of Mario and Luigi 30 years ago, Yoshi has grown up with his human companions in Italy, roamed the entire Kingdom, and been on countless adventures – bettering the Mushroom Kingdom and keeping the prophesied peace… helping the Super Mario Brothers prevent Bowser from taking over his tyrranical father’s dispelled reign of greed and destruction.
